I found another good site full of free flash games. A lot of them are the same as the ones on ugotgames.com, but a lot of them were new to me. I'll talk about one I'd seen before, just because I like it. A lot.
The site is http://www.addictinggames.com. The game is the Kitten Cannon.
Yes, the Kitten Cannon. It's what it sounds like. You shoot a kitten out of a cannon. And yes, it is that much fun, especially if you don't like cats very much. Me, I find cats pretty annoying. I just picture my sister's littel mutt-cat, and have fun...
But I digress. Let's get to the game particulars.
You start with cannon, at the left of the screen. You can use the up/down arrows to raise or lower the barrel, and the space bar to shoot. There is a power meter on the cannon, with a moving red bar. When it's fully lit, it's at maximum power; when it's dark, it's at minimum. Just wait for the bar to show the power level you want, and then fire the cannon.
Obviously, the kitten will travel farther if the barrel is elevated to a high angle, and the cannon is fired at full power, but you can fun at low power and angles, as well. The "firing range" is littered with various objects, which can help the kitten along, or stop him cold. The barrels of TNT, "balloon bombs," and trampolines will give the cat a boost. The piles of deadly spikes, and the carnivorous plants will end the turn, in a rather darkly amusing fashion.
If the kitten manages to avoid the deathtraps, he'll eventually bounce to a stop. His distance from the cannon is your score for that turn.
This game is good for mindless entertainment, and cat-haters everywhere. One of the more amusing points: when the kitty goes off the top of the screen, an arrow points up, and tells you his altitude in feet. All in all, a good bit of escapism.
One warning: there is a moderate amount of gore; don't let your wife or young daughter catch you playing this one!
I've been talking lately about action-oriented free flash games, but there are a lot of other choices out there. Yesterday, I found the "Flash Version" of an online casino, All Jackpots (http://www.alljackpots.com, just choose the "Flash Casino" button at the lower left of the casino entrance picture, and it will open the "Big Flash Casino"). Just a point of caution: you will need to install an ActiveX controller to run the flash casino. If you get paranoid over those, then this is not for you.
If you're not worried about ActiveX controllers, then you can get started on some serious fun. When you start the flash casino, the system will ask you to log in, or to register an account if you don't already have one. Now, I like casino games, but I don't like gambling, so I registered a "guest" account. It's the same as a real account, except you use the "money" in your account simply to keep score; no financial transactions actually take place. That was fine with me, since all I really wanted was to play blackjack and 3-card poker. If you want to try and win big, you can: the site will walk you through the process to set up a "real money" account.
Enough about the casino; I started this blog to talk about games. So what about the free flash games? The blackjack was a blast; I must have spent two solid hours at it, and I did well, too: I started with my guest account with 5000 points, and ended up about 600 ahead, although for while, I was down by about 200. The game played smoothly, without any choppy graphics, and, numbers man that I am, I kept track of the hands played and found that the win/loss percentage was about the same as Vegas or Atlantic City. Irrelevant, really, on a guest account, but nice to know, anyway.
Bottom line: I would recommend online casino gaming, at least with a guest account. It was a lot of fun.
